Ernest W. “Ernie” Fretwell – Born February 20, 1946, and departed this life on December 14, 2013, in a local hospital. He was a native of Citronelle, AL and resided in Mobile, AL. Ernie worked for 48 years as a meat cutter and was known as the Best Meat Cutter in Alabama. Ernie was also a member of the Order of Inca for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Stella Fretwell, and his brother, Arthur Fretwell. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Nelson Fretwell; two sons, Ernest Fretwell (Jacque) and Shane Herlong; three daughters, Melissa Geriah, Bama, and Melanie Herlong; four very loved grandchildren, Breanna Khorrami, Elexia Lenning, Madison Khorrami, and Drew Ledlow; and one great-grandchild, Elijah. Ernie loved life and the fact that he came from a very close family of 13 children. He is survived by four brothers: Wilton Fretwell, Wendell Fretwell (Carol), R.V. Fretwell (Evelyn), and Jimmy Fretwell (Jan) and seven sisters: Lois Wooley, Ovenia Howard, Loraine Henderson (Don), Edna Bedgood (Harry), Doris Ridge (Robert), Louise Parent (Danny) and Carolyn Farmer (Tom), and many nieces and nephews.
Everyone that knew Ernie knew of his love for his family, his baby girl, Zoe, and Alabama Football. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Dignity’s Three Notch Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or South Brookley Methodist Church.

  3. Barbara, I’m so sorry that I can’t attend Ernie’s funeral today. I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.

    Life is full of uncertainty, yet we must be willing to face each day with courage and strength; Courage to know God has our back and has already won our battles for us and strength to hold on long enough to get through those uncertain times…………..Day to day living is uncertain, but God’s Promises are not. He will give you strength in the days to come.
